11/15/08 Chateau Garage Pinot Noir Tasting at Stanford / USC Tailgate
The weather cooperated nicely and we all learned a bit about Pinot Noir. One thing learned was that cheap Pinot is usually not good
Pinot. And the Germans should stick with Reisling and not try making Pinot (each of the three German Pinots from Han Lang came in dead last in their flights).
The clear overall winner was the La Rochelle, but the Cambria and the La Crema at half the price were also excellent. One late arriving wine was not evaluated, but Marc tasted it and it would have done very well. That was the Santa Barbara Crossing. Not many tasters got through multiple flights. With about 40 tasters present, we got only 36 score cards, which is less than one flight per person. Next year, come early, pace yourself, and hang tough.
